DVDRB2ISO adds automated ISO generation to the free version of DVDRB

Deleted because I´m currently feeling like this !

Note: This is no offence ! He did all the work. So
he´s free to make the decision wether to charge for
it or not.

So did you ask his permission before deciding to add the feature yourself? Sorry if I can't get too excited about it.

personally I think it's good that you are watching out for those that use freeware collaboration could have gotten you farther is the point in which you where searching.
Jdobbs has been constantly working on the pro version I can't count the # of updates in the past couple months .

but I will wait on his approval before giving the link, even though I think it's a most appreciated and great addition
but it's his baby =)
just my 2 cents

Sorry mate, What´s your point ?

The point is that all of the programs you listed exist only in a freeware version, or are features not even available at the time in any kind of advanced version. There is no food being taken out of anyones mouth.
DVD-RB is how jdobbs earns his living. The fact that there is a freeware version at all, should be something that he be commended for. Take just a few seconds and put yourself in his place. How would you feel?
I respect what you're trying to do, but I think this is the wrong way to go about it.

If I am not mistaken Jdobbs has always welcomed input from other authors.

It doesn't take much to create an ISO image from files.  Even though I use the Pro version I prefer to make the images myself.
It's an old habit of checking the files with IfoEdit to be sure they look OK.  Never had an issue, but old habits are hard to kill.

Please don't let this turn into a fight over what you THINK will or won't offend Jdobbs.
Let him speak for himself.

Just please be respectfull of his work.

Darksoul71 I can see where some may find your choice of words a little harsh, but I am sure you didn't mean to come across that way.

Darksoul71 as I said I am sure you didn't mean to come across that way.

I am sure you are just trying to help.

Mostly I was just hoping to have you both calm down a bit.  As I am sure it's all just a misunderstanding.

At the same time I can see SpazzHH's reasons for wanting to defend.  Again I just think it's a misunderstanding that pushing each other's buttons gets us nowhere.

@Darksoul71
This is great!
Many thanks.

I wouldnt think jdobbs would mind (i suppose he will let us know) but as stated, jdobbs has never stopped someone from making a helper app. Most of the pro features are not repeatable without practically making your own dvdrb.. so i dont think this app will cause someone not to donate. the iso feature just sweetens the pot for the pro version.

also, jdobbs has said he doesnt live off of dvdrb donations. its a bit of extra income which he has said he mostly ends up going back into the project (buying dvds he wouldnt have otherwise purchased to research possible bugs)

makes sense -- there are certainly dvd's I've seen mentioned here that I wouldn't care to buy out of my own pocket for testing purposes. and if I were jdobbs, I'd be about ready for someone to find a problem with a porn title, so when my girlfriend got all up in arms when I came home with quot;Lesbians Gone Wild, vol. 3quot; or some such thing, I could tell her in all honesty, quot;Hey baby, it's research!quot;

My choice of words might seem harsh but they are not targeting Jdobbs work. They are targeting the fact that more and more freeware tools turn into share / donate / whatever you might call it ware. If it sounded like I was targeting Jdobbs with this, I´m sorry....

I would also like to hear Jdobbs opinion on this. I had no motivation to turn this thread into a flame war. My intentions was (and still is) sharing my latest AutoIt script with other. If an add-on script to DVD-RB doesn´t belong here, where should I post this then ?

I've been avoiding comments.  But I guess I must.

I'd just say I have more of a problem with your choice of wording than with the fact that you wrote this app.  Poking someone in the eye and then saying quot;no offencequot; is not the same thing as simply not poking them to begin with.

1.  The freeware version hasn't quot;frozenquot; -- but I have stated clearly that none of the features of the Pro version will be added.  That is simply so I can get some compensation for my time.   I assume you have car payments to make too?  I think I have the right to decide what I do and don't do for free and what schedule I apply to it... especially the quot;freequot; part.

2.  Comments like quot;and turns it into payware...raises a red flagquot; and quot;more and more tools turn into sharewarequot;  are simply inappropriate.   What right do you or anyone else have to determine what a developer does with his/her time?   I chose to create a freeware version because I wanted to make high-quality DVD backups available to everyone -- which is much more than most developers would do... the Pro version is my way of trying to get compensated by those who are willing to help.

3.  As for adding the ISO output option... I really don't mind.  MKISOFS is open source and was already available to freeware users.   I think I've even given advice to folks once or twice as to how to do it.  I just added it to the Pro version as a convenience.  In fact the source code for MKISOFS is downloadable from my site.

I just wish you could have done it without the commentary.

Just as an aside... quot;AutoItquot; is a wonderful package.   I hope everyone who is using it and can afford to do so donates to jon for his work and hosting costs... autoit3

I just wish I could have done it without getting the other commentary. When I get somehow quot;attackedquot; you can bet on that I´ll reply. Next time you´ll can be pretty shure I´ll keep my script in the bin just sharing it with friends. Bah....

Welcome to the club.  That's reflects exactly how I feel.
