Bad CD/RW ? only, firmware, hundreds, current

I have a Lite-on 52325s CD/RW with current firmware.  I've made zillions of disks (kvcd's, data, skvcd's).  every once in a while I would get a verify error in Nero or ingBurn, (only 1 or 2 bits) while doing a VCD or a SVCD. I ignored it, I thought it was a bad disk, and since it was a movie, that small of an error wouldn't be noticable.  Tonight I started getting alot of errors, hundreds or more.  I tested 2 CDR's, and then moved onto 4 CDRW's most of the errors occur at about 3/4 of the way through the disk.  Data CD's seem to be OK.  since this started, I've scanned for rootkit, virus, spyware, reverted all recent changes, you know, the usual stuff.

Anyone have any thoughts?

1) Your burner may be nearing the end of its useful life

2) You could try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on it. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US...
