The difference in the final output is tough to accurately describe, but I shall try.
The silver topped ones tend to produce an image that some prefer, because it tends to be shinier. It reflects light more, and has a bit more of the quot;sheenquot; that some consider a more professional look.
BUT, the white topped ones tend to have colors which are actually more vivid, or brilliant, or bright. The actual colors on the white discs do not look as quot;softquot; and quot;mutedquot; as the one with silver tops usually look The white ones do not look as quot;shiny, quot; but the colors seem much brighter.
If you do a search, I know that on occasion people have even posted some images of their finished printed output. I seem to recall a thread that had some images from each type of disc, so you could see for yourself.
You could also make a trip to the store, and simply buy a single disc or two of each, assuming you can find them -- and just do a test print of the same image on both.
I use the white-topped ones, but you will find many others who prefer the silver ones.
I even recall one user who wrote that he kept both on hand, and used the one he believed would look the best with the particular image he was printing.
