add audio to a compressed video

I have compressed a DVD by Divx5.02 without audio, however, now I have changed my mind and I would like to add an audio to the film, I wonder if it is possible? If so, how?
Thanks!

Hi-

It's easily done with Nandub. Open the video and go to the Video Tab and make sure it's set to Direct Stream Copy. Then go to the Audio Tab and (VBR)MP3 Audio (if that's what you have). And then go back to the File Tab and Save As AVI.

I've got it, thank you very much!

Hey, I hate to jump on your thread, but I have a similar question.  I have a compressed (Divx 5.02) file with the main audio track on it.

I'd like to add a second commentary track.  I know this is easily done from the beginning, as I usually back up the DVD's with both main audio tracks and a commentary track if it's available.

So, back to the question.  Is it possible to add a second audio track to an existing file, or do you have to start from scratch?Easy to do, using Nandub.  You'll save a new .avi, but no reencoding will be done.

Open .avi file
Set Video....Direct Stream Copy
Set Audio...Direct Stream Copy
Set Audio...Secondary Stream
Select the appropriate audio file
Set interleaving and delay as desired
Save As.... a new .avi file.
jggimi,

Thanks for the info!  I'll be trying it later today.

I thought the avi container had issues with more then 1 audio stream.
Or is it just with ac3 amp; mp3 combined?

Issue?  You just need an .avi player that supports multiple audio streams, such as BSPlayer, or, if not, such as WMP, you need the Morgan Stream Switcher.

[Edit: Microsoft's GraphEdit will show you how each stream is managed.]

I use a writing style that makes it appear to the reader that: 1) I'm absolutely sure of my answer, 2) I have already done this thing, or 3) tested it myself, 4) and am completely confident in it, and 5) you would be foolish to discount it.

Yet, I often 1) give only a partial answer, 2) make incorrect assumptions, or 3) unintentionally mislead.
