divx-3 not going normal again

hi guys,

sometimes when i play divx3 files it looks dodgy at the start for a few seconds (more blocks are apparent then neccesary the colors look screwed it looks like 256colors) then it's like it refreshes and goes to its natural goodness. however recently i have been trying to play my clips and it wont' refresh it looks dodgy throughout the whole clip (i know it usually looks way better so it's not the encode). I recently installed div4.12 i'm pretty sure i didn't tick don't play div3 with div4 decoder. But ever since then it won't refresh (that was yesterday). i uninstalled div4 however when i go into properties div decoder it's still using the div4 decoder. Is there a way i can fix this without formatting (which i will do eventually neway). I might go try changing the fourcc code thing.

Either follow the instructions found in This Thread, or get ffdshow and have it decode your DivX3 movies. I recommend ffdshow. It's pretty cool.
