Hard drive recommendations
I need to get a fast ata 100 hard drive for when I do video capturing. I also need to make sure that it either doesn't do thermal re-calibration or has smart thermal re-calibration.
Anyones help will be appreciated
I currently use a Western Digital 120 Gig hard drive, ATA 100, with 8 MB onboard cache. I didn't see anything in the specs about thermal calibration, and currently my captures with this drive are just about perfect.
Maxtor Hard Drives have always been my choice for the best hard drives. I do alot of audio amp; video editing. I've had my Maxtor 27.2GB 7200rpm HD for almost 2 and a half years without a hickup. And I just recently bought a Maxtor 60GB 7200rpm 100ATA as a second HD just about 4 months ago.
Very fast seek times...may not be as fast as the latest SCSI HD's but I've never had a problem working with uncompressed/compressed video with the Maxtor's.
I have two IBM Deskstar 120 GB (RAID0 on a HPT controller) that I'm using for captures on a daily basis as well as for my system and program files. I've never had any problems with these drives yet, they are fast and cheap (probably due to the bad rep that IBM got with some of the earlier Deskstar drives) |
