RipGuard continues, ARccOS ends?

I wonder why Sony is abandoning ARccOS? 3 posibilities come to mind.
1. It is easily defeated so why inccur the additional expense in production costs.
2. They are switching to Rip Guard.
3. They are going to stop releasing movies in the current DVD format and will only release them in the new high definition format(s).
Or 4) We'll soon see another, different attempt at copy protection from SONY...
Probably...no.
DVD video format is limited in its specifications hardware (DVD players).
They will not support encrypted data as well than HDDVD or blu-ray hardware (DRM and others...).
I think that #3 possibility is right. We'll know it soon.

You're deluded. Sony will keep releasing DVD's for a long time. They still release VHS, for cryin' out loud!

No wonder MV only has one studio on board for there RG protection, it's useless!
Personally I have always thought Sony's ARccOS was a better protection than RG. MV will half to dream up something really smart to defeat all the rippers in the second quarter if they plan on getting more studios on board.

Who knows what Sony are getting up to these days. That once highly respected company is now a joke. I wouldn't be surprised if some executive (possibly high on cocaine) has decided that the perfect copy protection is to stop producing anything worth protecting. If you think about it, that policy was probably introduced a year or so ago ago, and it's gathering momentum.
It's almost a year later now - and we all know that SONY has continued to trudge on with ARccOS copy protection.
One has to wonder what the purpose of that original article was...
Perhaps that if Sony was really going to stop using ARccOS - then they perhaps would use Ripguard instead and rising the share prices of Macrovision.

The whole article sounds as a commercial for Macrovision.
