Studios Sue Maker of DVD Copy Software
news?tmp...hi_te/dvd_suit
They are countersuing 321 Studios, makers of DVD Copy Plus and DVD X Copy. Anyone know what the original suit is?
Oh, and this week's analogy is:
quot; It's like somebody selling a digital crowbar. It's like breaking into the castle if you will, quot; said Patricia Benson, an attorney for the studios.
Actually, that's a good analogy, because it's perfectly legal to sell crowbars, at least the analog variety.
EDIT: Here's another source. It provides a little more insight into the case, and actually makes the same point about the crowbar analogy I made above.

ohoh, poor old Derrow
I feel bad for the 150,000 people that actually bought the software.
Honestly though, it was just a matter of time until this hit the fan. I don't think any of us should be too shocked. You all know that companies with this kind of power (read money) can team up and
squash even the slightest nuance (or make the quot;nuancequot; go bankrupt fighting). Both plaintiff and defendant are wrong on many different levels here.
I saw this on the local news. It'll be interesting to follow. |
