RGB Scartgt;S-Video through Scart

I want to convert my Satellite Box's (Sky Digital) RGB Scart signal into an S-Video signal so I can watch it on MY PC SCARTgt;S-Video so it isn't all black and white and fuzzy...

I can find small boxes that can do this but they cost upwards of about £70. That is far too much, wondered if there is anything I can do to make it easier.

Many sat boxes can provide S-video through at least one of their RGB connectors natively. Have you checked the settings in your box? What brand and model number do you have?

It' an el' crapparino  Amstrad DRX100 (hey, it was free)...

SKY Has a control to switch from RGB/PAL through scart (or selecting PAL may make it send RF only). Neither of them make coulor show on my PC. Neither SCART socket show it either. Ideally, I would get a SKY DigiBox with dedicated S-Video out. This would ensure s-video signal, but thats like another 200 quid and waste of my old box as I would need to subscribe twice if I wanted SKY Digital Channels (get a discounted second subscription). But all of this is out of the question.

I really wonder if I can fiddle the order of the wires in my SCARTgt;S-Video lead so it would send scart signal or my PC would interpret it as S-Video but paying 70 quid for such a decive, sounds unlikely that is could ever be this simple. I create the cables my self though ideally, I would use my IXOS Scartgt;S-Vhs or if I had an independant S-Video out on my DigiBox, an HighQuality S-VHSgt;S-VHS cable.

Any help appreciateddar1us

Yes, you're right, it's not as simple as to swith a few wires in the scart cable. The original scart standard does not carry any s-video signal whatsoever. Modern equipment that do support s-video through scart is violating this standard by using the R-wire (in the RGB signal) to carry the s-video signal. If the manual to your Armstrad doesn't mention s-video I believe you're out of luck.

but cheers for that, I thought as much but I would have been distrought if I went out and got something fancy -gt; expensive and found otherwise.
