Hello Everyone
I'm having a problem using Gordian Knot in my Windows XP machine.
Everything appears to be working normally - ripping goes fine, preview shows the whole movie is there ect.
But in the end, I only wind up with a few seconds of the beginning of the movie.
I've tried both the latest version (both rip and system packs installed) plus the previous version, both giving me the same results.
I've been able to use Gordian Knot in the past on my Windows 98SE machine with no problem.
I'm at a loss as to whether this is an issue with XP (I am new to XP),Gordian Knot on XP or maybe even the new, external Sony DVD+RW/+R drive (firewire) or .....?
(DVD drive on my Windows 98SE machine is a Philips internal DVD+RW)
I see SmartRipper says quot;no ASPI access to this drivequot; :

Hi-
I'd guess an .avs problem. Try and open the .avs directly in VDub and scroll around. Pay special attention to the 77-78 second area (1 min 18 sec) as it seems to have crashed there. Can you make it crash by doing that? Does your first sub show up there by chance?
Perhaps post the .avs (but without the lines beginning with quot;#quot;).
Thanks so much for your reply.
I took the same DVD to my Windows 98se machine w/internal DVD drive and GKnot sucessfully ripped and encoded the movie on that computer.
I was thinking of playing musical DVD drives - putting the internal in my XP machine and seeing if the same problem occurs with the thinking that if it does, than it's probably some sort of issue with XP and if not, than it's an issue with the external DVD drive ???
I opened the avis in VDub - I see the whole thing is there but right about where you said - that's all of the film I get when encoding is done in GKnot. Am now saving as an AVI in VDub. So far,it seems to be doing ok, will post when it's done.

Hi-
This is the way you post an .avs:
LoadPlugin(quot;C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\mpeg2dec.dllquot;)
mpeg2source(quot;F:\H O F\H O F.d2vquot;)
crop(0,2,720,475)
BicubicResize(640,464,0,0.5)
Those are the only lines in your .avs that actually do anything. I recommend you and everyone do that on your computers so that you can make sense of it. There's nothing wrong with the .avs (except that I prefer even numbers for the crops). So, my first guess was wrong. There's nothing wrong with XP as an OS for video encoding. I and hundreds of other people here use it.
So, my next guess is a hardware problem. You say it crashed again. Was it at a different place this time? You might not know as you encoded directly in VDub this time. Random crashes point to heat buildup or some other kind of instability. Are you overclocked? If so, try it at default settings. Can you check the CPU temperature as you encode? You might try and run Prime95 for a few hours to test the CPU to see if you get errors. You might try and run Mem86 to check the memory. You might take the cover off the computer and blow a room fan on it as a test to see if that works. That will definitely point to heat buildup as the cause if you can encode successfully that way.
I think you might have something there about the heat -
Am not over clocked but someone told me that the card I have (Radeon DV 8500) is bad about heat problems.I bet this is it.
Thank you soooo very much for your help!! |
