Fixing MPEG2 videos?

I have a bunch of MPEG2 videos that i think have damaged or missing indexes. These files are DVB PAL streams from Europe (ok ok, they're Alizee videos   )

Media player 10 would play these files for about 5 seconds and then freeze on the frame, whereas Media Player Classic would play it flawlessly. I am assuming that Media Player 10 is more sensitive to damaged or missing indexes in mpeg2 streams. I had set both players to use the nvidia dvd decoder (using Directx va acceleration).

Anyone know of a way or program to repair these mpeg2 videos? Or how to make mediaplayer10 play these videos? I want to be able to play these in Media Center.

you might try re-muxing them with something.  there's a bunch of tools for that, most notably muxman and mplex (command line).  i'm not really sure if that'll create more problems though... like the muxer skipping damaged GOPs and making the audio lose sync...

it'll be worth a shot though.

make sure you back up/make sure you don't lose the orig though
last time I was playing a demux'er it deleted the orig after, check your options to make sure you don't do it
granted I was playing an ogm but never hurts to be safe

Thanks soo much! your suggestion worked like a charm. I used bbtools and muxman and now it plays perfect in Mediaplayer! All i have to do now is get a GUI for bbtools to make it easier to do all of my files.
