problem with avi audio compression

I've captured video from a VCR device with Virtual VCR without in the fly sound compression. Later in VirtualDubMod, when i want to compress audio in Stream list i choose compression to mp3. I click Save As and i get this message:

Erorr initializing audio stream compression.
The requested conversion is not possible.

I've installed lame and i've coppied lame_enc.dll in windows\system32 folder. Upper mentioned in the fly compression in the Virtual VCR is also impossible (i get similar message).  

You need install lameACM.acm to encode Lame mp3 in Virtualdub

... and be sure to register it ...
