Can't import OE6 mails in Outlook 2000 ?

A friend just mailed me that he has no problem importing mails from Outlook Express 6 in Outlook 2000, but I'm not sure if he's using Outlook 2002 maybe.

When I try to import my .dbx files in Outlook 2000 (SP3), I only get an error message that the files in this folder can't be imported and I should check if another program is using them.
This isn't the case, and the files aren't write protected neither.

I'd try to export the mails to another format, but the main problem is that Outlook Express 6 in WinXP won't start at all (that's the only reason why I want to use Outlook 2000 at all...)

The error message from OE6 says something like the OE mail folder -which means the default mail folder, not the one I'm trying to import- cannot be opened because there is not enough RAM or HD space available - this is total nonsense, there's plenty of both available)

This happens on a new installation of WinXP Pro SP1, before and after I updated Internet Explorer with the newest patches. IE 6 runs fine, though, so do all other programs...

If anybody has an idea on how I can

1. make Outlook Express 6 run in WinXP SP1
or
2. import my saved OE6 .dbx files into Outlook 2000

please give me a hint (although I fear that everybody will just say that OE6 works perfectly for them and they also don't have problems importing .dbx into Outlook 2000...)

Don't know about running OE6 on WinXP but if you can run it anywhere you can just mouse select a bunch of emails and drop them into any folder.

Do the reverse to import. The only problem will be ones with invalid garbage chars in the subject.

I solved the main problem (OE6 didn't run, only gave me a strange error message).

I followed this MS guide on how to uninstall OE 5 and 6:
default...;en-us;Q256219

After deleting all files and running the registry removal tool, I ran the online setup of IE6 SP1 which automatically installed OE6 again. Now it's working without problems.

I still don't know what caused OE6 to give me an error message that should only appear in Win98 and ME when you mix up installations of older and newer OE Versions. It shouldn't be possible that this problem appears with a fresh installation of WinXP SP1 on a formatted HD. Maybe there's something wrong with the installation files on my WinXP CD???? I don't know...
