TMPGEnc Souce Creator

Hi, hope someone can help.

I am using TMPGEnc Source Creator 2.1.3.8 to encode .avi movies to .mpg and then create a dvd in TMPGEnc DVD Author.  I have been doing this on my laptop for a while and not having any problems.  I run into the occassional .avi and encoded with VBR audio and have to run thru VirtualDub first, but not often.

I have started to do a lot of work on a newer PC, and have all of the same programs installed.  A lot less codec's though.  Recently, I tried to encode a file and when I loaded the file it, the time stated was almost triple the actual running time.  I figured it was a VBR file and tried VirtualDub, that didn't work, the sound was horribly out of sync.  When I tried to encode the EXACT SAME file on the laptop, it worked just fine, the time was correct.

So the exact same program version, exact same .avi file, and it is read 2 completely different ways.  I figure it may be a codec problem, but have no idea which one, or how to determine which one is being used by the program.

I hope this makes sense to someone, and that you could give some advice.  Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a problem with an audio codec and/or with the VFAPI-Settings in TMPGEnc. I suggest to compare your TMPGEnc-Settings on you Desktop-PC and your Laptop first.

There are no environmental settings that can be changed in TMPGEnc Source Creator, other than where your temp files output to.

As I posted, I figure it is a codec problem, but how do you find which codec the program defaults to in your system?  There are a lot of codecs I have on my Laptop that are not on the PC, what's the easiest way to find the important one?
