A good MPEG2 codec that works with vdubmod?

Anyone know of one? I have a backlog of home video footage in DV that I want to convert and put on DVD, and right now I'm doing it with Premiere Pro, which is cumbersome due to lack of automation. I just want to batch up the transcoding and let it run overnight (about 17 separate DVs files pulled from tape).

I can script the whole thing with VirtualDubMod.

BTW, searched the forum, and couldn't find anything. Thanks for your indulgence!

Is there are any other reason why you need VDub(Mod) except scripting / automatization?

Because if there's no you should use a MPEG2 Encoder like HC / QuEnc. They have cli interfaces so automatization should be doable

I've never done MPEG2 in mkv/ogm/avi but I heard its supposed to be possible.. though since you need DVD compliant stuff anyway you should avoid those.

Ahhh... good suggestion! I already have HC from installing DVDRebuilder.

Can I just feed an avs frameserver to HC through the cli? I've never used it standalone...

Yes you can frameserve avs via cli. I dont know if the documentation is installed aswell but there is a pdf that explains all options.
If you dont have the pdf you can get it from the HC017 zip:
Software/D...Encoder_v0.17/

Thanks, man! I'm up and running, transcoding a sample file right now. Looks good, and with the HVSBEST matrix the encoder forecasts a total 2-pass encoding time that is half of what the Adobe Media encoder takes.

After I get the params where I want them, I'm going to hack up a little VBscript to automate a quot;watchquot; directory, transcoding anything that is dropped in there. I'll post the script when I have it working.

Cool I always wanted to do this 'watch directory' stuff but I'm such a n00b on cli and anthing where I cant click stuff

Using CCE Basic the time would be even less( with better quality)

Subjective!!!

It seems that FFDshow VFW offers a encoder of MPEG-2.
But,how can you deal with a AVI file that contain MPEG-2......

In the ffdshow vfw config quot;output optionsquot;.  Select quot;store frames to external filequot;.  Raw.  And then call that file quot;whatever.m2vquot;.
