New Genesis / Mega Drive RPG being released this December!
Looks like a new RPG is going to be released for the Sega Genesis, Sega Megadrive and Sega Nomad videogame systems, right in time for Christmas!
I had read speculations that it will be about 40 bucks, but I think that’s a bit over priced even for a new Genesis game.
Never the less, it looks pretty cool for Genesis Standards.
Interestingly enough, it seems that they'll also release an enhanced version later on for the SEGA MEGA CD!
For the combat system, it seems to utilize the traditional Final Fantasy style, turned based mechanics, rather than the real-time, action oriented of Zelda amp; Terranigma on the SNES.
Not exactly my cup of tea, but I know quite a few SEGA/RPG fan boys which should get pretty excited about this amp; will probably pick it up when it's released.Other sites I have found concerning the game:
SegaSpetsnaz-News01.htm
Feature-%20Be...%20Preview.htm

So, get those Genesis's dusted up off. At least until someone dumps the game that is…
Here are some Pics:
Wow, this was really cool. I wonder though: why Mega Drive? I mean, it's dead. I'd rather have this game for the Saturn.

There are always people (I want to say quot;losersquot;) who develop a strong attachment (beyond nostalgia) to hardware (or software) and they won't let go no matter how obsolete (and painfully inferior) that hardware becomes.
There are the occasional homebrew games released for all the old game systems (adjusted for the system's peak popularity). Maybe it looks good on a resume, quot;Master Programmer of Sega Mega Drive. Novice Windows XP user.quot; Maybe it's just to impress the girls, quot;Hey, I'm not one of those PC hacker nerds. I'm a Sega Mega Drive hacker nerd!quot; Maybe it meets some personal need, quot;What do I need more, to make a new fire place and save on heating bills with a lovely fixture everyone in my home will enjoy or to make a new Mega Drive game that only a few strangers will appreciate?quot;
Anyway, over the past number of years, there has been a couple dozen games and demos released for the Mega Drive alone.
If the game is any good, virtually no one will play it. A handful will play it on the PC through emulation. Three people will play it on an actual Sega system. If the game is any good, the programmer should have ported it to Windows, or at least built-in a megadrive emulator and released it as stand-alone freeware for Windows.
Or they just might do it for educational purposes But in my opinion, they should've done it for the Saturn, because hey, both are dead consoles as far as I'm concerned, and the Saturn has more powerful hardware, albeit ten times more complex, which makes it virtually unusable for emulator purposes (at least in the near future). Saturn emulators suck :/
If I recall, this is being released on MegaDrive not b/c it's homebrew, but because there was a chinese version of this game that was never translated. No doubt it's much easier to do an official translation than to code a new rpg for Saturn or any other dead system
Where can I buy shares of that publishing company? I'm gonna be rich, lol
// what were they thinking?!?!
, etc. Who's to say which platform is appropriate for this release?Doobie: you're completely right. There are also people that have so much free time that they use it to write on threads they obviosuly have no interest on and call people nerds without any justification at all. Those people also like to think that graphics are everything and that gameplay is of very little concern, so their favorite game is probably the LaserDisc Arcade version of Dragon's Lair. These enlightened people also have the wisdom to chalk up developing a game to an emotional attachment they know is stronger than nostalgia and to add the words quot;Masterquot;, quot;Novicequot;, quot;Hackerquot; and quot;impress the girlsquot; to make their own pathetic insults sound kitschy (see? I can also use big words to sound smart and cool). These intelligent people also seem to know how many Megadrives are still being played around the world. They also seem to think they are as funny as Seinfeld or something, posing an hypothetical choice between creating this game and having a fireplace.
Yeah, there sure are some people that aren't worth listening to.
DAvenger: just curious, what would have been an appropriate course of action for you?

And, you don't quot;write on threadsquot;??? Besides, there's a big difference between spending a few minutes per day writing messages and staying up all night trying to work the bugs out of a new Mega Drive game.

If there's no justification in calling a nerd someone who produces games for a long obsolete game system, then what would be justification? Besides, I didn't call anyone a nerd. My post merely suggests the possibility.

I didn't say a word about game play. But, as long as you bring it up, newer systems actually have more game play potential just as they have more graphics potential.
Chainmax, are you working on the next, great Atari VCS pong game (quot;128 variations mean lots of game playquot;)? I mean, why so defensive? Note, I didn't say you were coming out with a pong game, I merely suggested the possibility.
This is what I think of your posts in this thread:
You are funny.
Uh .... it is a video game. Why all the hostility towards the Sega Genesis?
There is still a large community of 16-bit gamers. Even Atari 2600 games are still selling in stores in those controller packs that hook directly to the TV. I am now seeing Genesis controller packs as well. The upcoming Nintendo Revolution will even let you play NES and SNES games. There is still a market for these old games, not to mention the huge emulation scene.
For the record, my first reply to Doobie was sarcastic. I love vintage gaming.
I still play my old sega games
ehll mine still works just fine, I need to fix the rf adapter though, if I could get a dead one I would crack it open and use it for spare parts
I still play SNES games too
and its not because of some nostegia
its because the games had something new games lack
replayablity
look it up sometime doobie
maybe I'll stuff this in my x-mas wishlist now
Some time ago, someone made a post in Arstechnica saying that he modded older video consoles, adding them S-Video out. He showed some pictures of Master System's Hang On and they looked very nice. Look it up if you can .
I was thinking of over clocking my genesis to 13.5lt;?gt; mhz, it's a simple process, or so I've read
but I'll check that out and find a spare genesis to test on =0
and the main link doesn't work that you posted up at the top mate

I bought one of those Atari 2600 things about a year ago. It's worthless. Ten games. Some of the games should have had a paddle controller (as they did on the 2600, e.g. breakout and circus charlie) and even the ones that did use a joystick on the 2600 weren't well suited to a joystick (e.g. missle command and asteroids). In other words, the games lacked even the poor playability they had on the original home system. Needless to say, the new toy held my attention only a few minutes and I really felt ripped off. The only value of the thing is nostalgia. (The Atari 2600 was too primative to have decent gaming.)
At the same time, I bought a similar thing but with five arcade games (dig dug, rally x, pac man, et al.). It was much more fun and the games better suited to a joystick (although, the reset button is moronically placed).
I've fought off the urge to buy the Atari Flashback (with a pathetic number of games, 20), as well as other retro systems tossed out to collect a few more bucks on old games. They need to put in a little more effort into these things because each of them has serious shortcomings.
And, I'm into the emulation scene. So, it's not at all like I'm dumping on anyone for being interested in an old system. You need to go back and read my first post. I said the guy should port it to the PC. None of thse retro game packs expect you to have the original system and they are all banking on consumer nostalgia for sales.
Those nerds who produced Begger Prince actually want to sell cartidges, meaning you need the original system. No one has nostalgia for a game they've never played and that never even existed until now. Even if you still want to buy the game, the only place you're going to find it is on their website, because no one selling the Atari Flashback is going to carry it.
The upcoming Nintendo Revolution will even let you play NES and SNES games.
It's really trivial for Nintendo to support NES and SNES in their new system, else they wouldn't do it. (I wonder if this means that you'll be able to buy 10-in-1 SNES game cartridges. And, it's not too hard to find some of these cartidges.) Still, it's a safe bet that Nintendo isn't going to produce any new NES or SNES games.
I wouldn't mind if they translated Seiken Densetsu 3, that would mean there would be three or four games worth buying for the N-Rev
and I don't think they're be making new games so much as porting on translated ones over, god bless nintendo, king of recylers
Personally, I prefer playing retro games either on the actual consoles or via emulation amp; I don't do it for the nostalgia.
Even some old-school pc classics like Heretic, Hexen I amp; II, Doom I amp; II, Descent, Dune 2, etc… deliver a lot more fun and last much longer than some of the modern crap which could be finished in a weekend even at slow place!
Hell, its so fun playing Metal Slug 3, KOF94 or Ninja Combat on my NEOGEO AES console with the huge square Joysticks or Ninja Warriors Again on the SNES rather than playing that lame excuse of a game, Batman Begins on the PS-2.
The Gameplay of Thunder Force III on the good old’ Geny, the kick ass graphics of Axelay on the SNES, the awesome heavy metal / gothic soundtrack of Lords of Thunder on the PCE DUO, and the huge movie like levels amp; gameplay of Unreal 1, are priceless.
I feel sorry for some people who actually spend 650Euros for a beefed up PC graphics card only to gain a few frames on some lame FPS that they'll probably complete in an evening or two.
I'm currently playing Terranigma on my SNES, have already accumulated a total of 15-hours of gameplay amp; not even a quarter through yet.
Where as I've heard that Quake IV can be played through in less than 10 hours!
No way am I giving my hard earned 60 Euros for that.
The PS-2 with its huge catalogue of classic Shoot Em Ups amp; retro games due to backwards compatibility is a pretty nice system to own amp; so is the Saturn imo.
I wonder what the Nintendo Revolution will turn out to be, but one could state that it supports true back-wards compatibility only if you could stick an old Super Mario world or Axelay SNES cart or Ninja Gaiden II NES cart into it and play.
This downloading service provide by Nintendo is questionable?
Will it be able to play the regular verified Nintendo Roms [!] that have been available for ages, or will it only support the ones modified amp; supported by Nintendo?
Anyways, I got to play a few demos (King Kong, Call of Duty 2, NBA2K6 amp; Gotham Street Racing) on the new X-Box 360 at a shop the other day and other than Call of Duty 2 which looked quite cool, I can't justify its graphics being vastly superior to what I've all ready seen on the regular PS-2, X-Box or on a beefed up PC.
I still have to play a few more titles amp; see the PS-2 N-Rev in action to have a clear opinion though.
Anyways, this new “Beggar Prince” Genesis RPG is of no surprise since I have some friends at Frozen Utopia who are currently working on Neutopia III amp; a new RPG called Mysterious Song for the PC-Engine / TurboGrafX-16.

And then, there is also mindrec, who are developing a new Run-N-Gun, Platform Shooter for the PC-Engine called PC-Gunjin, similar to Contra amp; Gunstar Heroes.
forums/...light=pcgunjinThis Spider Boss, is supposed to be fully articulated:Aswell as a few other PCE amp; DUO games:

Meteor Blaster amp; DX look pretty cool if youre into that sort of thing:

?main=pce/meteordx.php
I don't have to set up my SEGA CD - I never put it away. I have my SEGA Genesis/32X/CD sitting right next to the PS2. I play them both about the same amount of time. Some of those old Genesis games have no equal on modern consoles.
Why write for the Genesis? One reason is it's fully understood. Every aspect of the Genesis/32X/CD has been discussed to death. It's easy to get assemblers and compilers which can be used to program the CPUs involved. Contrary wise, the Saturn is still poorly understood. Unless you have an official Saturn development kit, it's nearly impossible to do a decent game on the Saturn.
Basically, that's one of the main reasons why it failed in west, unlike the PSX which could be easily programmed using C assemblers, compilers amp; libraries.
Also the fact that it did not support real hardware transparencies amp; other hardware routines possible even by older systems like the SNES, basically dwarfed it compared to the PSX's graphics capabilities. |
