I have DVB-C set top box receiving a coded signal but no card is required for the box.Is there any way of transferring/copying  the coding software to another new set top box with same spec, but different manufacturer. There are RS232 interfaces on both boxes. Thanks

Hi macone,
First of all what do you mean by card? And what quot;coding softwarequot; you are taking about?

May be you can explain your ultimate aim  ?

Impressed for the quick reply Dmitri, it's the first time I've used these forums so didn't know what to expect.
I receive the digital signal which is presumabably decoded by the set top box for TV viewing.  I want to view the channels in another part of the house which we will need another receiver and I was hoping just to copy across whatever decoding software there is in the existing receiver onto the new one. The exisiting box has a sticker saying '411 067 804' and 'Tuned + P', if it is of any help. I assume the signal is encoded in some form although the box has a card slot but no card is used. I have another unused DVB-C set top box and to cut red tape, paperwork and expense, i thought of a quick transfer maybe a simpler option. I was also intrigued to find if it could be done as I was told it was not possible!

Hi macone,
first of all DVB-C is cable TV signal based on MPEG-2 videa audio coding and multilexing. If you want to have a few TV sets, why don't you just split the cable physically and try to link up your second set-top-box to a new cable bifurcated?

thanks Dimitri i will try that and see if it works. If I split the cable before it reaches the present box, it assumes that the signal is not encrypted and you just need the additional set top box just to receive the digital signal and pass on to the TV. As i said I thought my present box would have some sort of encrption software in that would need to be copied across to the new box but lets see if just splitting the cable works .

Hi macone,
Well, it is fairly interesting that an encypted system operates without any conditional acces cards. This can only mean two things: 1. a signal is not encrypted or 2. a vendor of your set-top-box and DVB signal provider either the same company or have a deal, in other words your set-top-box is for encrypting type of DVB-C you receive.

In any event, just try to split a cable firstly..

Apologies for not getting back earlier Dimitri..have been out of the country for 6 weeks.Tried your suggestion on my return and works fine. Thanks very much for your help, much appreciated.
