ISO creation problem with Hair DVD (Region 4) only, following, creation, recently

First of all, hello to everyone!

Well, I made a full movie backup of Hair (Region 4 - although this is an old DVD in the US, it was only recently released here in Brazil). I didn't remove anything from the DVD (kept all audio tracks, all subtitles, and all extras)...

When  it comes to the time to build the ISO, DVD Rebuilder returns an error, but the error isn't very elucidative. So I ran ingTool Classic v0.97.1 to check what error it was giving, and it was the following:

It's worth noticing that I have a FAT32 partition, but I configured ingTool Classic properly. And to make sure this wasn't the problem, I tested making an image from the original rip, and the image creation suceeded.

BTW, I ripped the DVD with DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0, in file mode, with the default options. And no, I didn't use any pre-processing.

I tested with DVD Rebuilder Pro v1.09 and, just to make sure, tried with DVD Rebuilder free v0.97 too, and both versions had the same problem.

Oh, and about the free version, the encoder configuration utility didn't set the options properly in DVD Rebuilder free (this was mentioned in another post, and happened to me too)

Anyways, thanks A LOT for such an excellent program, and to have such a perfeccionist as jdobbs coding it is really a blessing to us :-)

Could you post a listing of the VIDEO_TS directory?   It sounds like something didn't get copied over correctly.

Hmm... I don't really see anything.   Have you tried doing the REBUILD phase again (in three click mode)?

I only use the three-click mode

First I used the Pro Version, three-click mode... Then I uninstalled the Pro Version, installed the free one, and used it with the three-click mode too...

I will include the original VIDEO_TS.IFO and the rebuilt one, so you can compare them

And I will also include the log... Don't get frightened by the loooong time it took to encode everything, I used 4 passes, and my PC is a Pentium III 1 GHz... :-)

Edit: Ow, since the ingTool error message says that either VIDEO_TS.IFO or VIDEO_TS.VOB is not of correct size, I compared the original VIDEO_TS.VOB to the original one, and they are the same (I used jacksum to generate an SHA-1 hash, they are identical on both VOBs). So I guess the problem might be in the IFO file, but that's just speculating, because I'm completely lay when it comes to DVD structure.

Don't know if this applies, but, just as a note:  

You can't rebuild something with the freeware version if the PREPARE/ENCODE was done with PRO.   The PRO has a lot of additional flags and settings that the freeware version will ignore.

Just a couple of suggestions:
- Try to open the RB output VIDEO_TS directory into Shrink, and watch if it produces an error. If not, generates the ISO with Shrink in Not compression.
- Try to open the VIDEO_TS.IFO with IFOEDIt and do the GET VTS command (I'm not an Ifoedit  knowledgeable person, but I think this was the command to use)
- Try to run your RB output (before the ISO creation) in through a soft palyer. Does it runs?

pg55555:

- DVDShrink gives no error messages;
- The rebuilt directory plays fine through WinDVD;
- And yes, IfoEdit gives the following error:

And jdobbs, I ran the prepare and encode phases again in the freeware version.

Both rebuilds gave me the same error through IfoEdit (I tested the Get VTS Sectors before I deleted my Pro version rebuild, and tested the freeware rebuild now).

The thing here is not that I couldn't get the rebuilt directory to work, but the fact that since the rebuilt directory presented this issue with the ISO creation, this could perhaps be related to another problem, and since I noticed that jdobbs is really a person that digs what he's doing, I thought he would like this challenge ^_^

So here you go, this is all the info that I think I can help with... If there's any other thing you guys think I can test, just say it.

Nonetheless, as usual, I can't thank jdobbs enough for his phenomenal work! And of course, thanks to all other people who help too! (that's for you pg55555) :-)

Hey jdobbs, I've got some good news... I did some more testing with this issue.

Let's go through all the process:

1st: I tried rebuilding my Hair DVD with version 1.09.2 of DVD Rebuilder Pro. The problem remained...

2nd: I ran IfoEdit (newest version) and used the quot;Get VTS Sectorsquot; command, but this time saving the changes. Tried to make an ISO now and ingTool made the ISO with no problems.

3rd: I tried rebuilding another DVD, in this case quot;Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarronquot; (Region 4 NTSC - Brazil). I ripped it the same way I ripped Hair's DVD. This DVD also presented the same problem when trying to make the ISO.

4th: Now, instead of using IfoEdit, I converted my partition to NTFS (do you remember I said it was FAT32?), and tried using ingTool again. It failed...

Now comes the interesting part:

5th: I deleted the DVDFILES folder and ran ONLY the rebuild phase again (this time the partition was NTFS). When I tried making the ISO again... VOILLA!! :-) The ISO was created succesfully...

Well, so the problem seems to be related to FAT32 partitions, and to the Rebuild phase...

I'm really happy everything is working fine now, and I hope these informations help you in some way!

Good debugging...  Actually I just thought about it.  FAT32 can't handle a file size over 2GB, right?   I think it will handle 4GB if an unsigned integer is used.  So an ISO image would never work unless it was under 4GB  -- and the default size is 4.32GB...

What I didn't get is the why the DVDFILES folder, which is not the ISO yet, and where the files do not exceed 1 Gig, are influenced by the FAT32 partition... And why do the ISO creation work after I use the quot;Get VTS Sectorsquot; command, even on the FAT32 partition?

Please forgive me if you made that clear in your last post, but I don't have proper knowledge of the DVD authoring structure, so I didn't get all the info that you probably provided in your last post.

I'm pretty sure there were other people using FAT32...  because I've had some reports from people using Win98.   The ISO feature may not have been in back then, though.

As for why...  the only thing I could imagine might be if the O/S is reporting file lengths incorrectly (maybe as a result of odd cluster sizes) and the sector pointers could be incorrectly calculated as a result.
