I am encoding a 30 Minute video which was captured using ATI Theater 550 Pro capture card using composite video from my DVR Box. The capture resolution is 720x480 and is in MPG2 format. The source is progresssive and dosent need to be deinterlaced. Anyway I want to encode this video in either 640X480, or 624X448, 608X448, 592X448 or 512X384 the resolution size dosent matter to me. Anyway Im using Divx Pro 6.12 and I want to retain file size about 250MB's or so. So my question is im using quality based option what would be a good fixed quantizer number to matain high quality with the desired file size, or recommend a good bit rate for bit rate based option. please help me out
You might want to try this little utility that I wrote. Simply put in the resolution you want, audio bit rate, length of movie and quality and it will calculate the bitrate and total file size. Let me know if it works for you.
It requires Microsoft 1.1 Framework, but that is probably already on you machine.
You can get it in this thread.

You are saying you want a file size of approx. 8 mb/minute. Undoubtedly I would say the best format is AVC/ H.264. Nothing else will get a better quality for that file size. Divx, in my experience, is absolutely horrible at lower bitrates (under 3000 kbps or so).
I think it is 250MegBytes of storage. Or 2000MegBits at 30 minutes that would be 1.1Mb/s which would look fine with Divx.
(1.1E6 * 30 * 60)/8 = 247MB

The file size is about 250mb's so what settings do I need to use in order to get at least decent quality
I'm sorry. Are you saying 250 MegBytes or 250MegBits. Data rates are generally in bits/second but HardDrive and DVD storage is in bytes.
If you want 250MBytes (about a 1/3 of a CD) you will need to record at about 1100kb/s (KiloBits/Second). Divx will give you good results at this rate.
yeah 250MB File 1/3 of a cd so what do I need to get divx to get that good quality
firered ever heard of a search? seen the guides section at ? do some reading instead of posting at multiple forums and subforums and expecting to be spoonfed you lazy sod

For your info I have been reading the guides on here and doing searching and researching using google, I found these forums using searches. Thats the whole reason for a forum for people to post problems and issues and other users post responses to help each other out not be rude, Thats the whole forum concept exchange of ideas and ways to help. I may not know alot about this than you do, but im trying to learn and do it correctly, im been trying to use different codecs to see if their is any difference, god sorry for asking for some help
yes the point of a forum is to post problems and issues and for others to help. but you're asking questions that have been answered countless times. you're not the first person to attempt a divx encode. take a look at rule #1.
1) Read up before asking! There are tons of guides, FAQs and each forum has a dedicated Qamp;A thread with additional info.
1a) Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.
not only have you broken the rules, you've posted here and duplicated them at digital digest, gotten very good responses at both, and still ask questions you could answer yourself by a little exploration, eg CLICKING the quot;more...quot; button in the xvid GUI, where you will find the settings you're after. but no thats not precise enough for you, you need to keep asking the same question here and there.
if you had read the dvd to xvid guide like you claim you have you would have everything you need, it guides you through the entire process. also the divx codec gui is very very simple to use, it has a preset slider made just for newbies. if you're still confused check the divx site for a pdf manual that explains every function.

Just set the bit rate to 1100 bit/sec or filesize to 250MB, Home Theator, Balanced.
What tool are you using for Encoding?
failed on keeping the audio in synch.
Iw was then that Setarip here at the forums recommended to use mpegmediator and it works.
Hope it helps

Don´t you demux with ProjectX and cut with Cuttermaran in the first step?
and staxrip keep the audio in sync when quot;feeding themquot; the windvr output.
Mpeg Mediator is an amazing program. Whenever I have auido sync problems with other tools I turn to the Mediator and it has never failed me (assuming you have a good rip).
I wish it was still in development. I don't think it has been touched for over a year now. |
