DVD Burner takes an hr to burn
Hey wat up everyone. I hope someone can help me out with my problem. Well i have a lite on burn model # SOHW-1693S. When i burn a dvd with a dvd-r 16x it takes an hr to burn. I tried the burner with another computer and it burned at the proper speed and only took 5 minutes to burn a dvd movie but on my computer it takes an hr for the same movie. I have tried everything from changing software burner moved memory chips around and nothing has worked. I used and am still using nero to burn dvd's. does anyone have a solution for my problem? I would appreciate your help.
Do you also have Roxio installed on the problematic computer? If so, uninstall it.
nah i only have nero installed and thats it
Hi!
1) Make certain that you have DMA turned on for your drives
2) See if there's an official firmware update available for your burner
3) Post a NERO log of one of your burns here
Another possibility, if you tried to burn at 16X, is that it tried to burn at that speed and couldn't so it stepped it all the way down to 1X. That's happened to me before. Since you're using both 16X drive and media, you should be safe to burn at 8X, but you should never exceed half the rated speed of the drive or media, whichever is faster.
What CWR03 says makes a lot of sense. I use a 1693S w/Nero 6 at 6x and it does a DVD5 in about 10 minutes.
Check which version of nero you have, if it came bundled with your burner then the Nero is the low end type of trial version which limits your buring speed.
here is my nero log. enjoy reading it lol:

It appears that you need to enable dma for your burner. I believe this was already suggested. If you want help it would be a good idea to actually try the things which are suggested before coming back for more help.
ps. you should not include your serial number in the log
Agreed - I also notice that your selected burn speed is 8X. Is your media 16X?
I used and am still using nero to burn dvd's.
Based on the log claiming a successful burn at 8X (should be 7-8 minutes) while actually taking 52 minutes, I'd speculate that you're using a demo version of NERO that you've now been using for more than 30 days (Which reduces to 1X burning after 30 days)...
By all means, as I initially speculated, and your log confirms, turn on DMA for your burner...
hey thnx everyone my problem was fixed. i had to go into the bios because dell had turned it off from da start. thnx a lot fo all your help and support.
