Video playback in PGCEdit not working
Sorry if this has been covered already - did a quick search but couldn't find anything.
Basically, was using VOBrator and PGCEdit fine for ages. Formatted my PC the other day, re installed all the usual stuff (Nero, Power DVD, one or two other bits inc VOBrator and PGCEdit) but now these last two don't work.
In VOBrator I can't preview anything (off hand the error message is something like quot; Can't render graphquot;).
In PGCEdit (in trace mode), I can run through a DVD but when it gets to a bit of video, it doesn't show the preview window. Plays through and then carries on with the trace but doesn't show anything? If the cell has menu buttons it works OK but if it's just video it runs straight through.
Thinking I am missing a MPEG 2 decoder codec?
Cheers for anyone's help and apologies again if this has been covered in another thread.
Matt
Hi, and welcome!
Try to launch the standalone preview exe (located in the PgcEdit\bin folder), and drag-drop a VOB file on it. Does it work?
PgcEditPreview does not need a decoder, the code is entirely based on DVD2AVI which includes a written-from-scratch decoder.
Are you sure your trace setup has the preview open the cell automatically? Check out your preview setup in the trace area...

And tick the little box in the trace dialogue. This opens up video segments automatically.
Regards
Thanks for all your help guys.
r0lz - yes, dragging a VOB onto PgcEditPreview.exe works fine.
jeanl / blutach - when in Trace mode, under the Preview menu, I have both quot;Use Preview?quot; and quot;Automatically start Preview playbackquot; checked.
Been stumped for a week now

You must also tick Open preview automatically when playing a cell or tick the little Play arrow in the trace menu (it's a shortcut.)

Sorry mate, which menu is that under? I've seen it somewhere but can't see it now! I'm using PGCEdit 0.6.3.1
Cheers for all your help
Matt
In the menu specific to the trace mode: Setup -gt; Preview Options.
Cheers mate! I can't believe I have been struggling with this and all it was was a little check box!
Thanks!
Now, Vobrator....
I mainly use it to identify what ID's in a VOB file are what so that I can strip it using IFOEdit. An example is where a VOB has the the menus in half a dozen languages and I want to strip them out to save space.
Since formatting I can't get it to work. It loads the VOB fine and shows that there are 50 (for example) ID's but when I try to preview one, I get a quot; Can't render graphquot; message.
It's not the stablest of bits of software so if there was something else that did the same thing I would change. And ideas?
Thanks again for all your help.
Matt

You can readily accomplish this with DVD Shrink...
You can see the VOB/Cell IDs in the PGC Editor of PgcEdit.
Also, Info -gt; PGC Params and Cells Table gives you an overview of all cells in the DVD with the V/CIDs for each cell.
And remember that you can delete completely and easily a menu language unit with PgcEdit. It is easy to remove the cells of the deleted LUs with FixVTS or VobBlanker.
Note that the next version of PgcEdit will allow you to blank out any cell from the preview window in trace mode. Kill PGC Playback will also allow you to blank the cells of the selected preview. All you will have to do is to strip the blanked cells from the VOB files with FixVTS or VobBlanker.

How do you remove a specific cell with DVD Shrink? It can be done only in reauthor mode, but obviously mattgentle wants to keep the menus!
And replacing a cell with still frames is not as efficient as removing it completely.
@rolz

If you re-read my response, it is directed specifically to the quoteAn example is where a VOB has the the menus in half a dozen languages and I want to strip them out to save space.
You can readily use DVD Shrink (NOT in quot;Re-authorquot; mode, rather in quot;Full Diskquot; mode) to eliminate any audiostreams that you wish - and retain active menus...
Hum, a menu domain can have only one audio stream. Mattgentle wants to strip the menu cells (or LUs), not the audio streams!
@r0lZ
If that's what quot;mattgentlequot; means, then you're right. If he/she means that a menu offers a choice of six languages (audiostreams) for playback of the movie, then I'm right...

He uses VobRator to retrieve the IDs of something. Since it is not needed to know the IDs of the audio streams to strip them, we can assume he wants to strip the VOB cells. Also, note quot;a VOB has the menus in half a dozen languagesquot;. That doesn't mean that the movie has many languages.
we can assume
Naah - although your interpretation is likely the correct one, I learned a long time ago not to assume anything.
I'm sure quot;mattgentlequot; will post again to clarify...
Thought it about time, nearly a year later, to repost to this one
Sorry guys forgot all about it
r0lz was correct in that I wanted to remove menu cells and not whole menus, PGCEdit 8 does exactly this
Sorry I haven't been back in a while |
