Tips on doing a credits only re-encode with DVD-RB free
As they say in radio .. quot;Long time listener, first time callerquot; so here
goes ..
Firstly, hats off to jdobbs for such an excellent tool that takes almost all
of the mundane repetition out of doing dvd backups.
Every ~80 or so titles, I find one where I can keep the entire original video stream
for the main movie, if I just re-encode the credits.
I'm using the current (0.96) free version of DVD-RB, and wondered how to
do this without regressing to an earlier version maybe supported by Vob-Keeper.
It sounds like this feature is already part of the Pro Version, but if you
spent some time googling (like me) and found great guides on removing
the credits or making them into stills not quite fitting your
needs, please accept my humble contribution to extend the functionality of this great
tool.

Any comments, suggestions, quot;You are an idiot, you should have just done Xquot;
corrections are welcome
Guide to Re-encoding only the Credits in RB Free
Hi random asshat,
really nice idea and thanks for your work.
One little bug:
I have just been copying the section out of the REBUILDER.INF file into a new .ECL text document.

If you're encoding only the main movie there is an easier way instead of copying parts of the ecl file:
Count the number of m2v files which already exist, open Rebuilder.inf and copy the line
Encode_Progress=Number^^
beneath
CCE_Type=...
In RB hit encode and answer the resume question with quot;yesquot;.

Good catch on my .ECL versus .INF blunderOriginally Posted by RippraffIf you're encoding only the credits there is an easier way instead of copying parts of the ecl file:

Much more efficent than the way I have been doing it, I must have missed
that setting in the documentation.
Thank you for the comments.
Hi-
An easier way yet is not to use DVD-RB for the job at all. I've also come across a few DVDs that, having removed what I wanted to remove, were just a bit over the DVDR limit. Demux the cell containing the credits using PGCDemux. Reencode the credits in CCE (or your encoder of choice) yourself, shrinking them as much as necessary, make a quot;mini-DVDquot; using Muxman, and then stick the credits back into the DVD using the Replace button in VobBlanker.

That's not inside any documentation probably because jdobbs doesn't like it much if people are changing RB internal values and he has to clear up the mess if people are doing something wrong. As your project is completly different from the normal use of RB I've posted it even though.
@manono
Thank you for the hint. I will give it a go next time when I'm in a similar situation.
The advantage of your way, nobody can blame Jerry if it doesn't work...

yes... you are right!
Every time someone posts tips like those (yours and random asshat's) should include a warning...
quot;If this doesn't work for you... don't bug jdobbs about this... bug me!quot;
It would be easier to everyone lol |
