DVD drive no longer burns DVD's properly

OK, this is driving me nuts so hopefully someone has some thoughts.  I have a NEC ND-2510 DVD writer that I have used to burn hundreds of DVD's and CD's without any problem.  A few days ago it suddenly started burning DVD's with errors.  This was odd because I didn't change any hardware or software and I didn't change the media I was trying to burn to.  I also tried to burn a number of different files, and even tried to burn a couple test discs through Nero without any success (I also tried using a different brand of media to make sure the media wasn't the problem).  I also decided to try burning the same files, and the Nero test with a different computer that uses a NEC ND-3500 burner, but also had problems with that one, but this second computer has never been especially good at burning discs so I wasn't too surprised that it wouldn't work.  Finally, I bought a new DVD writer (NEC ND-3550) for the computer that used to be able to write DVD's without a problem, but even after installing that drive I don't seem to be able to burn without errors.  I am completely stumped since my hardware hasn't changed, and as far as I know my software hasn't changed.  The only thing I can figure is that it's related to media, but I have tried two different spindles of BEAll DVD's (I have previously had success with DVD's from both spindles, and no environmental conditions have changed) and a third spindle of Ritek DVD's, so it's hard for me to believe that it really is media.  For the record, I use DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0, DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15, and Nero 6 when I backup DVD movies, and used the quot;create data CD' option under the Nero CD-DVD Speed plugin to create test DVD's.  If anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate hearing them.

RAM errors?

Can you try either burner in a different computer?

Have you checked to make sure DMA is enabled? (Right-click My Computer and select Manage, click Device Manager, expand IDE ATA/AtAPI controllers, double-click each controller and check the settings under the Advanced tab.)

It might be helpful if you would post here the NERO log of a failed burn...

I have tried 3 different drives in 2 computers (at least one of which used to work perfectly normally) so I really don't think the computer is the problem.  As for a Nero log, here is a sample log of a failed burn:

Forgot to mention, DMA is the default fro the drive on both computers.

i'm not sure, but you may have problem in your ASPI layer

Windows XP:
windows\system32\drivers\aspi32.sys
windows\system\wowpost.exe
windows\system\winaspi.dll
windows\system32\wnaspi32.dll

Windows 2000:
winnt\system32\drivers\aspi32.sys
winnt\system\wowpost.exe
winnt\system\winaspi.dll
winnt\system32\wnaspi32.dll

or try the quot;ForceASPIquot; at Doom9 site's Support Utils

First try this checking utility to see, if you have right amp; working version of ASPI layer/driver, from Adaptec :
worldwide/sup...hk.exeamp;sess=no

Latest ASPI drivers from Nero's site :
nero6/eng/WNASPI32.DLL.html

Or, try another free utility/tool soft , FrogAspi :
download.htm#frogaspi

What you've provided is not the NERO log of the actual failed burn. Look in your NERO directory for a file named quot;NeroHistoryLogquot;...

Hey Setarip,

I may have been confusing in what I wrote.  I am not getting any kind of error message when burning DVD's.  DVD's burn successfully, but when I check them (or try to play them back on my computer or standalone DVD player) I get all sorts of errors which I never used to get before.  So, they burn fine, but are essentially unreadable after burning.  By the way, I've also tried slowing down the burn speed to 2X in the hope that would make a difference, but it hasn't.

Thanks.

something similar happen to me also ...
was able to figure out the source of the problem, it was the original DVDs, which had scratches in its surface . the reading part of the copier soft, read quot;0quot; in the place of original corrupted data, thus, even though the final backup process was successfull, it failed to play properly in an external  standalone dvd player or pc . even though the scratches seemed negligible, actually they were not .

I have tried 3 different drives in 2 computers (at least one of which used to work perfectly normally) so I really don't think the computer is the problem.
it's hard for me to believe that it really is media

I think it's got to be one or the other (not too many other options that I can think of) - and I tend to believe it's the media you're using. You might want to try picking up a couple of T-Y or Verbatim blank media and try burning them...

Thanks for all the input.  It looks like it WAS a media problem afterall.  I'm surprised that three different spindles of media were all bad, but that appears to be the problem.  I bought a fwe cheap DVD's just to test a different brand of media, and they appear to have all burned fine.  Thanks again to everyone who offered help, you saved me from almost certain insanity.
