Need MP4 to AVI converter
I've got a couple MP4 videos on my HDD that I'd like to convert to avi or xvid. There doesn't seem to be a real solid piece of software that can do this, that I can find at least (just based on quick Google searches and reviews).
Can someone recommend a program that will do this?
I have Intervideo DVD Copy 4 and according to their site theres an upgrade (H.264 edition). However it doesn't say specifically if it will convert mp4 the way I'm wanting to.
I wouldn't mind paying for the upgrade if it'll do the job.
But again, I don't know if it will so I'd like some input if anyone has used this version yet.
Hi!
Actually, there appear to be at least several capable software products listed if you do a Googlesearch for quot;MP4 to AVIquot; (Include the quotation marks).
If, for whatever reason, none of these meet your criterion of quot;a real solid piece of software that can do thisquot;, just go back to your original source material that you used to create the .MP4 and instead create an .AVI (XviD-compressed or otherwise)...
.mp4 = mpeg-4 = xvid, divx
if the video stream in .mp4 is not avc, than you already have a xvid/divx like video stream and therefore there is no need to reencode
still my question as always is why you need to have the streams in .avi?
Follow this guide and you do not have to re-encode the video.

I had this problem when I bought a DVD player with Divx support. It seems most brands and models only support mpeg-4 in avi containers.
EDIT: The guide uses mp4ui. However, I find mp4box (with YAMB as a GUI) will work with mp4 files that mp4ui will complain about. So I suggest using mp4box with YAMB instead of mp4ui.
.
